Few prospects in the Class of 2016 put together a summer on par with 6-foot-9 forward Wenyen Gabriel, who went from a player merely considering high-major programs to one receiving interest (and offers) from many of the nation’s best programs. For some prospects that change in status would result in them looking to string things out recruiting-wise, but that isn’t the case for Gabriel.

Wednesday afternoon the Wilbraham & Monson Academy forward tweeted that he’s cut his list to five schools. Those five schools are Connecticut, Duke, Kentucky, Maryland and Providence.

Gabriel also has visits to three of those schools planned already, as he’s expected to visit Maryland the first weekend of September (September 4-6), Kentucky from September 25-27 and Duke October 16-18. Gabriel played well throughout the spring and summer for the Mass Rivals grassroots program, with programs such as Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina and Texas offering him in July as a result.

Of the five schools on the list Providence is the only one without multiple upperclassmen in its current front court rotation, with Duke and UConn having two seniors apiece (the Huskies also have two juniors), Maryland one senior (Jake Layman) and Kentucky two juniors (Marcus Lee and Derek Willis).
