Michigan State guard hoping to diversify offensive game

One of the players who needs to step up for Michigan State next season is senior guard Bryn Forbes. The former Cleveland State transfer battled through some early season injuries to shoot 42 percent from the 3-point line last season.

Head coach Tom Izzo and the Spartans are hoping that Forbes can become a more well-rounded offensive player after adding 17 pounds of muscle this offseason. By moving up to around 192 pounds, according to a story from Joe Rexrode of the Detroit Free Press, Forbes can more properly handle the physicality of the Big Ten as he’s hoping to be more of a threat attacking the basket.

Forbes was a valuable role player for Michigan State last season as a spot-up shooter and if he bumps his scoring average up from 8.5 points per game as a junior, then he’d be a major help for the Spartans. With the loss of Travis Trice, Michigan State’s backcourt scoring could use some help and Forbes being in this kind of shape could help put him back into double-figure scoring averages like he had as a freshman and sophomore.
