Marquette coaches discuss daily ‘noon ball’ tradition (VIDEO)

You’d be hard-pressed to find a college campus where there isn’t a daily pickup game amongst staffers. Be it games consisting of professors looking to get in a workout in between classes or coaches looking to get the competitive juices flowing, “noon ball” is something that has been a part of many schools for a long time and will continue to be.

At Marquette, their coaching staff has on-court credentials few other programs can match. Head coach Steve Wojciechowski’s program has eight staff members who played Division I college basketball, including himself (Duke) and assistants Chris Carrawell (Duke), Stan Johnson (Southern Utah) and Brett Nelson (Florida). With that being the case, the 45-minute sessions are very competitive, which is understandable given the skill level.

In the video above the daily games are discussed, with Carrawell, director of player personnel Travis Diener (played at Marquette) and director of basketball operations Justin Gainey (NC State) discussing the games while also making their picks for the most overrated and underrated players. And the seemingly universal pick for the best player was Diener, who helped lead Marquette to the Final Four in 2003 alongside Dwyane Wade.

UPDATE: There’s been a challenge issued by Eastern Kentucky head coach Dan McHale, whose staff includes former first-round draft picks Michael Bradley and Reece Gaines. If there are any other coaching staffs who want to do the same, maybe we can set up a tournament for the future.
