Iowa State is getting valuable summer practice time and four games in Spain as part of a foreign trip that Division I programs are allowed to take once every four years. With new head coach Steve Prohm and Big 12 conference title aspirations, the Cyclones get some additional time to work with each other heading into the new season.

In a story from Associated Press writer Luke Meredith, Prohm said that the group getting to know each other was a huge part of the trip overseas that begins in August.

“Hopefully we get a chance to bond,” Prohm said to Meredith. “Learn about each other more...and just get a chance to pour into one another. That’s the biggest thing. It’s not really about winning games and playing. It’s about the time together, the camaraderie.”

The trip is an important one for Oregon State transfer Hallice Cooke, who is recovering from hip surgery and trying to learn how to play with new teammates. Cooke could be a valuable role player for the Cyclones this season if he’s healthy and ready to go. Marquette transfer Deonte Burton will make the trip to Spain, but he isn’t allowed to play due to NCAA transfer rules.
