With Austin Nichols deciding to transfer earlier this month, Memphis had room to make another addition to its roster. Sunday afternoon, it was announced that 6-foot-4 guard Craig Randall Jr. has committed to Memphis and will join the program this upcoming season. Randall’s father made the announcement on Twitter.

“After a long process with some disappointments along the way...my son Craig has committed to Memphis! Go Tigers,” the elder Randall tweeted.

Craig Jr. also received interest from programs such as St. John’s and UTEP, and he will be Memphis’ seventh freshman (eighth commit counting Ricky Tarrant) when the 2015-16 season begins. Of those seven four are guards, with Randall joining Randall Broddie, Jeremiah Martin and Dante Smith as players who will look to give the Tigers some additional production on the perimeter.

Memphis doesn’t lack for depth or experience at the guard spots, with Kedren Johnson, Trahson Burrell and Markel Crawford among the returnees and former Alabama guard Ricky Tarrant joining the team as a graduate student.

Randall played his senior season for Mike Bibby, who Memphis head coach Josh Pastner was a teammate of on Arizona’s 1997 national championship team.
