Penn State lands commitment from UConn transfer

Former UConn guard Terrence Samuel is headed to Penn State, confirming the news on his twitter account on Tuesday evening.

Samuel was a borderline top 100 recruit coming out of high school in Brooklyn. He spent two seasons playing with the Huskies, averaging 3.6 points and 1.6 assists in just over 20 minutes as a sophomore. He started eight games in 2014-15.

The 6-foot-4 combo-guard played a key role off the bench for the Huskies during their run to the 2014 national title. He had 11 points in a win over No. 2 Villanova in the round of 32 and added 10 in the win over No. 3 Iowa State in the Sweet 16. But Samuel’s future with the Huskies was in doubt, as Kevin Ollie had recruited over him in recent years. Since Samuel committed, UConn has added top 25 recruit Jalen Adams, Rodney Purvis, Sterling Gibbs and Sam Cassell Jr. in their back court.

Samuel should be a nice addition to the Nittany Lions, although his upside is limited. Samuel is 0-for-18 in his career from beyond the arc.

He will become eligible in 2016-17 and have two seasons left to play.
