St. John’s has landed a commitment from Federico Mussini, 19-year old combo guard from Italy.

Mussini was a highly-sought after point guard with interest from college teams in the United States as well as from professional teams in Europe. He picked the Johnnies over the likes of Vanderbilt, Gonzaga, Davidson and Virginia. The 6-foot point guard scored 21 points in a 2012 Jordan Brand Classic game and averaged 22.6 points, 4.0 boards and 2.1 assists in the FIBA U18 World Championships.

Mussini will become the eighth member of Chris Mullin’s first recruiting class with the Johnnies. With two available scholarships, the Johnnies also have a handful of other targets they are pursuing.

Mullin has completed overhauled the roster in Queens since arriving, as he has jettisoned the two most talented returnees in the past month, guard Rysheed Jordan and big man Chris Obekpa.
