Creighton bolstered its depth in the backcourt this week as they announced the signing of junior college guard Malik Albert. The 6-foot-1 Albert spent two seasons playing junior college ball at Mott Community College in Michigan before sitting out this past season to get his academics in line.

A high-scoring guard who can also distribute, Albert averaged 24.4 points, 4.5 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game during the 2013-14 season.

“We are thrilled to add Malik to our team,” Creighton head coach Greg McDermott said in the release. “He is a very gifted offensive player that can score in a variety of ways. He will be a terrific fit in our system.”

The Bluejays are expected to start Boston transfer Maurice Watson at lead guard next season while starting shooting guard James Milliken also returns. Junior Isaiah Zierden is also back in the fold for Creighton, but its uncertain how healthy he’ll be coming off of two knee surgeries.

Albert gives Creighton some backcourt insurance and he could provide a scoring boost off the bench next season.
