Colorado’s chances of reaching the 2016 NCAA tournament suffered a massive blow earlier this month as forward Xavier Johnson tore his Achilles’ tendon.
Head coach Tad Boyle confirmed the injury on Thursday. It was suffered in a workout earlier this month, and Johnson underwent surgery to repair the injury last week.
He’s expected to miss the entire 2015-16 season, and while a return late in the season is possible, it may not make sense to burn the year of eligibility. Johnson, who is a rising senior, averaged 10.3 points and 5.6 boards as a junior, numbers that were down from the 12.0 points and 5.9 boards he averaged as a sophomore.
