Already holding one pledge in the Class of 2016 in the form of four-star power forward Nick Ward, Michigan State received a second commitment in the form of one of the top players in the class Monday morning.

According to Reggie Rankin of ESPN.com, five-star shooting guard Josh Langford has verbally committed to Tom Izzo’s program. The Madison, Alabama native, who plays his grassroots basketball for the Atlanta Celtics program, made the decision just days after taking his official visit to the Big Ten program.

In leading Madison Academy to a state title this past season, Langford averaged 24.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game. In addition to Michigan State, Langford also considered Arizona, Auburn, Duke, Georgia, Mississippi State, Stanford, Alabama, Kentucky and Texas per ESPN.com.

“Josh Langford is a significant grab for Michigan State and he gives them a potential go-to wing scorer,” NBC Sports recruiting insider Scott Phillips said. “A plus shooter who also plays with a lot of physicality, Langford should be able to handle the rigors of the Big Ten almost immediately thanks to his advanced physical development. He gives the Spartans a huge perimeter boost in the 2016 class.”

Michigan State will lose two key perimeter contributors at the end of the 2015-16 season, with both Denzel Valentine and Bryn Forbes entering their senior seasons. Among the perimeter players with eligibility remaining beyond the upcoming season are juniors Alvin Ellis III and Eron Harris, sophomores Lourawls Nairn and Javon Bess, and freshmen Matt McQuaid and Kyle Ahrens.
