Five-star guard Tyus Battle de-commits from Michigan

Michigan’s 2016 recruiting class is now down to two commits, due to one of the top players in the country deciding to reopen his recruitment.

Five-star guard Tyus Battle has decided to open his recruitment, according to a report from Scout.com. Also of note is the fact in all of this is the fact that Battle will take an official visit to Syracuse this weekend.

Battle’s de-commitment leaves big men Austin Davis and Jon Teske in Michigan’s 2016 class, and with the loss of Battle head coach John Beilein and his staff are without a needed piece on the perimeter. The Wolverines have two seniors in Spike Albrecht and Caris LeVert, and with Derrick Walton Jr. and Zak Irvin both being juniors a versatile piece is just what they needed moving forward.

Battle was that player, a gifted guard who can play either on or off the basketball. Now that he’s opened things back up, Michigan will have to re-recruit the New Jersey native (if they so choose) while also continuing to look for other perimeter options in the Class of 2016.
