Xavier has landed a commitment from Norfolk State transfer RaShid Gaston, NBCSports.com confirmed through a source. He has one year of eligibility remaining, but he’ll have to sit out the 2015-16 season before suiting up for the Musketeers.

The news was first reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Gaston is a 6-foot-9, 240 pound low-post presence that spent the past three seasons with the Spartans. As a junior, the Ohio native averaged 15.5 points and 9.6 boards, making him a target on this spring’s transfer market for a number of larger programs. While Gaston’s numbers were quite impressive, it is worth noting that in three games against Vanderbilt, Baylor and Georgia, Gaston finished with a combined 20 points and 19 boards, although much of that could be the result of constant double-teams he faced.

At the very least, Gaston will provide some physicality and depth for the Musketeers along a front line that will need it in 2016-17. Jalen Reynolds will be a senior that year, while Makinde London and Kaiser Gates will be both be entering their sophomore seasons.
