Iowa continued its recent success recruiting younger classes locally as the program landed Class of 2018 shooting guard Joe Wieskamp, he announced on Twitter.

The Hawkeyes took advantage of Wieskamp being an Iowa basketball fan and living only 35 minutes from campus in Muscatine, IA. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard is the team’s first commitment in 2018.

One of the reasons Iowa is doing so well with younger classes is head coach Fran McCaffery having two sons playing with the Iowa Barnstormers, a very successful AAU program. Connor McCaffery is committed to the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2017.

Wieskamp was offered a scholarship from Iowa in May and he was also pursued by other in-state programs like Iowa State and Northern Iowa. Playing varsity as a freshman at Muscatine High School, Wieskamp shot 40 percent from 3-point range and averaged 16.8 points per game.
