That’s Iowa State Athletic Director Jamie Pollard with Prohm, who is already decked out in Cyclone gear.

“We feel Steve and his family are a perfect fit for Iowa State University,” Pollard said. “Steve’s personal values, style of play and proven success as a head coach make him an outstanding choice to be our next coach. He is a proven winner who is widely respected by his current and former players. We feel Steve is the ideal coach to continue the incredible success that Coach Hoiberg and his players have achieved during the past several years. We are excited to welcome Steve, Katie and Cass to the Cyclone family.”

Prohm has four years of head coaching experience, all of which came at Murray State. In those four years, he’s 104-29 and 54-10 in Ohio Valley play. In his first season at the helm of the Racers, his team won their first 23 games, finishing the season out at 31-2 and a win in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. He has yet to get back to the Big Dance, coming within one Taylor Barnette jumper from advancing last season.

Prohm has also helped develop two NBA caliber guards while at Murray State. Isaiah Canaan was an all-american that became a second round draft pick and averaged 12.6 points in 25 games for the 76ers this season. This season, Prohm helped turned Cameron Payne into a guy that could end up being a lottery pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

The situation that Prohm will walk into in Ames could not be better. Iowa State is primed to be able to compete for a national title this season with a roster that will have them sitting in the top ten of every preseason poll. He’ll replace Fred Hoiberg, who was hired by the Chicago Bulls last week.

Murray State has a reputation for being one of the best mid-major jobs in the country. Mark Gottfried, Mick Cronin, Billy Kennedy and now Prohm have all turned success there into a high major job.
