After a freshman season in which he averaged 12.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, earning Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors, former Charlotte guard Torin Dorn decided to leave the program in the aftermath of a head coaching change. Sunday night it was revealed that Dorn has decided to transfer to NC State, picking Mark Gottfried’s program over Miami.

News of Dorn’s commitment was first reported by Scout.com, and he joins small forward Shaun Kirk as spring additions to the NC State program.

Dorn started 16 of the 49ers’ 32 games last season, playing 27.5 minutes per contest and shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from beyond the arc. Reaching double figures in 22 games, the 6-foot-5 Dorn scored a career-high 26 points (10-for-16 FG) in a loss at Western Kentucky in early January.

Dorn will have to sit out the 2015-16 season, and he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining. NC State will have just one senior on its roster (Chase Cannon) this coming year, meaning that Dorn should have the opportunity to play with the likes of point guard Anthony Barber, West Virginia transfer Terry Henderson and twins Caleb and Cody Martin on the perimeter in 2016-17.
