Shaka Smart has landed a commitment from Tevin Mack for the second time in the span of a year.

Mack originally committed to Smart when Smart was the head coach at VCU, but the talented, 6-foot-6 wing reopened his recruitment when Smart made the move to Texas this spring. Mack visited Austin over the weekend, and on Tuesday he announced that he will be playing his college ball in burnt orange.

“I will be attending the University of Texas,” Mack said at an announcement ceremony.

It remains to be seen whether or not Smart will employ the same ‘Havoc’ style of play that me made famous while at VCU, particularly in the short term, but regardless of whether or not he does, Mack is a solid pickup for him. Mack, who was the highest-rated recruit left uncommitted, according to Rivals, can flat out score. He has three-point range, he can finish at the rim, he can score in the mid-range or in transition. That’s what he does.

And that’s what Texas is currently missing.

They have bigs and they have athletes and they have a point guard in Isaiah Taylor, but they didn’t have a “bucket-getter” on the wing until Mack committed. He may not have a huge impact as a freshman, but he’s a guy that will be capable of scoring 15 points in 20 minutes on any given night. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him averaged around eight points as the sixth or seventh man for the Longhorns this season.
