San Diego State has taken a transfer commitment from former Indiana forward Max Hoetzel, he announced on Twitter. The 6-foot-8 native of California will move closer to home to continue his college career and he’ll have to sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Hoetzel will have three years of eligibility once he sits out the redshirt year.

Playing in 31 games for the Hoosiers in his freshman season, Hoetzel averaged 2.4 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in 7.7 minutes per contest. Hoetzel shot 42 percent from the field and 34 percent from 3-point range. After he sits out a season, Hoetzel has a chance to be a solid addition to the rotation for the Aztecs. He’s already proven he can contribute a bit in limited Big Ten minutes and the Mountain West should be a little bit of a better fit for Hoetzel.
