Tulane has landed a commitment from Washington graduate transfer Jernard Jarreau, according to a report from Andrew Lopez of NOLA.com.

The 6-foot-10 Jarreau had committed to Oklahoma State earlier in the week, according to a report from Terry Tush of GoPokes.com, but the New Orleans native changed his mind and opted to play closer to home.

“At the end of the day, I just thought it was the best situation for me and a better fit for me,” Jarreau said to Lopez. “I get a chance to redeem myself in my city and come back home and play in front of my family and friends and try to turn that program around at Tulane. I feel like they deserve it and I deserve it.”

Because he is graduating from Washington, Jarreau is immediately eligible for the Green Wave next season. He’ll also apply for a medical hardship waiver for the 2013-14 season that he missed with a torn ACL and Jarreau hopes for two years of eligibility at Tulane.

This is a nice grab for the Green Wave, who also bring in a six-man recruiting class that is headlined by in-state four-star wing Melvin Frazier. Jarreau should give them an experienced big man who has played at the highest level.
