Avery Johnson Jr. announced he would transfer from Texas A&M after only one season.
“First off, I just want to say thanks to Coach [Billy] Kennedy & his staff for offering me a scholarship and giving me a great opportunity to play here,” he said via his Twitter account. “Also, I want to thank all my teammate’s for everything but I have decided to transfer to another school to continue my basketball career.”
It’s not surprising where the son of the former NBA point guard and head coach will land. According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, the 5-foot-11 rising sophomore will join his father at Alabama.
On April 5, Avery Johnson was named the next head coach of the Crimson Tide, replacing Anthony Grant, who was relieved of his duties after six seasons.
In one season with the Aggies, Avery Johnson Jr. averaged 1.4 points per game, making 13 appearances.
