Mike White has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Billy Donovan as the head coach at Florida, according to a report from Yahoo Sports.

A meeting between the two sides is expected to happen within the next 24 hours.

White has spent the past four seasons as the head coach at Louisiana Tech, having won at least 27 games overall and 13 games in league play in each of the last three years. The Bulldogs have reached the NIT in each of those three seasons, although they have yet to make the jump to the NCAA tournament.

That success has made White a sought-after commodity. The son of Duke athletic director Kevin White, Mike has turned down offers from a handful of other programs in the last two coaching carousels, including Tennessee. Prior to the job at Tech, White was an assistant coach at Ole Miss, where he is an alum.

White would be a good fit at Florida. He’s proven that he can recruit the state, he’s proven that he can win in different leagues (Tech made the jump from the WAC to Conference USA during his tenure) and he plays a style that is similar to that of former coach Billy Donovan; White’s Bulldogs press and like to get out in transition.

Donovan accepted the head coaching position with the Oklahoma City Thunder last week.
