Old Dominion grabbed a transfer forward on Tuesday as former Illinois sophomore Austin Colbert signed with the Monarchs. The team announced the signing in an official release.

“We are excited that Austin has decided to return home to continue his career,” Old Dominion head coach Jeff Jones said. “He is a talented young man with a tremendous upside. We can’t wait to begin working with him.”

The 6-foot-9 Colbert will have to sit out the 2015-16 season, per NCAA transfer rules, but has two years of eligibility left. The sophomore never found his way into the regular Illinois rotation and averaged 7.6 minutes per contest in his second season. Colbert averaged 1.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore.

He did end the season playing more minutes, as Colbert would regularly get double-figure minutes to close out Big Ten play. After sitting out a season and moving down to the Conference USA, Colbert could be an impact for the Monarchs.
