7-footer Trayvon Reed was expected to be part of Maryland’s talented freshman class last season, but an arrest for shoplifting in July ended his time as a member of the program before the season ever began. Reed ultimately wound up at Auburn, joining Bruce Pearl’s program in December and playing sparingly for the Tigers.

On Wednesday Reed’s legal case was finally resolved, with a Maryland court ruling that he has to serve 15 days in jail for the second degree misdemeanor assault charge that he pleaded guilty to in December. That charge stemmed from Reed attempting to get away from an (out of uniform) officer who suffered a broken finger in the process.

“I want to thank coach Pearl for standing by me, not only today, but since I decided to come to Auburn,” Reed said in a release according to AL.com. “I am very sorry for my actions last summer. Coach teaches us that we must own up to and learn from our mistakes and I have. I look forward to putting this behind me and returning to school with my coaches, teammates and the rest of the Auburn family.”

Reed’s sentence is scheduled to begin May 11, and he will remain a member of the Auburn basketball program.
