Mississippi State big man Johnny Zuppardo was arrested over the weekend, according to a report from the Clarion Ledger.

Zuppardo ran a red light while driving on a suspended license, which is precisely the kind of traffic infraction that doesn’t matter all that much but will certainly draw a headline for an athlete in the SEC.

Why was his license suspended? Because the 6-foot-11 senior was caught illegally fishing in Hattiesburg.

Welcome to the offseason.

Zuppardo missed last season after tearing his ACL and meniscus. He transferred into the program from Jones County Community College, where he was a three-star recruit in Rick Ray’s 2014 recruiting class. Ray was fired last month, and former UCLA head coach Ben Howland was hired to replace him.
