Wednesday has proven to be a day of change for the NC State basketball program. Hours after it was announced by the school that redshirt junior guard Trevor Lacey would forego his final year of eligibility and turn pro, it was first reported by The Wolfpacker that sophomore forward Kyle Washington has decided to transfer with the Raleigh News & Observer reporting the same shortly thereafter.

Sources confirmed these reports to NBC Sports.

Washington finished the season fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 6.8 points to go along with 4.1 rebounds per contest. The Minnesota native played an average of 17.8 minutes per game as part of the Wolfpack’s interior rotation, starting 18 of the 34 games in which he played.

NC State takes a hit depth-wise with this news, but they will have other options in the front court. BeeJay Anya, Lennard Freeman and Abdul-Malik Abu all have eligibility remaining, with Anya being in better shape as a sophomore than he was as a freshman and Abu coming on down the stretch for a team that reached the Sweet 16.

Given the personnel losses that NC State has incurred recently, Gottfried and his staff will have some open slots to fill during the spring signing period which began on Wednesday.
