Maryland is in the process of allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages at on-campus sporting events beginning in the fall of 2015, according to a letter posted on the website of university president Wallace Yoh.

The process started with a student proposal which made its way to a recommendation from the Athletics Council to Yoh. It would allow beer and wine sales to fans of legal drinking age with “sensible restrictions”, meaning limitations on the number of drinks that can be purchased at once and a cutoff time of, say, the middle of the second half of a basketball game.

If enacted, the proposal would be provisional and could be revisited after a year.

This wouldn’t be the first time that alcohol sales was allowed in on-campus events, as 21 schools allowed alcohol sales at on-campus football games this past season.
