Forward Justin Tillman changes mind, will remain at VCU

Two days after it was announced that his request to be released from his scholarship had been granted, VCU forward Justin Tillman has decided that he will remain a member of the Atlantic 10 program.

The Detroit native announced his change of heart on Twitter Wednesday night, and his decision to remain a Ram is a big deal for new head coach Will Wade. All three players who committed to the program when Shaka Smart was the head coach have received their releases, and to lose another player would not have helped Wade’s efforts to build upon the program’s run off success.

Tillman’s playing time decreased during the latter portion of the 2014-15 season, but the 6-foot-7 forward will have the opportunity to compete for more minutes alongside Mo-Alie Cox and Michael Gilmore leading into the 2015-16 campaign. Tillman averaged 3.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest as a freshman, playing just over 12 minutes per game.
