Chris Beard will be the next head coach at Arkansas-Little Rock, sources told NBCSports.com.

The hire will officially be announced in a press conference tomorrow.

Beard spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Division II Angelo State, where he took a team that had not had a winning record for three seasons and went 47-15 in his first two years. ASU went 28-6 this past season and reached the Sweet 16.

Beard spent ten seasons on the Texas Tech staff, including coaching for Bob Knight, and also spent a year as a head coach in the ABA and one as a head coach at McMurry.

Beard beat out Darrell Walker, an NBA assistant coach, for the job. He’ll replace Steve Shields, who coached the Trojans for 12 years but went just 13-18 this past season.
