The question of which college basketball fan base is the best is one that can take a long time to answer, and by the end of the conversation it’s pretty much guaranteed that there won’t be a consensus. Ticket City conducted a study recently, taking into consideration a variety of factors, and through their research have come to the conclusion that Duke has the top fan base in college basketball.
Factors taken into consideration included the number of Facebook fans and Twitter followers the program had, as well as attendance (percentage of capacity), the program’s merchandise sales ranking per the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) and the average price of tickets for the 2014-15 season.
Rounding out the top five were Kansas, Michigan, Gonzaga and North Carolina. As for the other teams in this weekend’s Final Four, Wisconsin came in sixth and Kentucky seventh on the list with Michigan State not ranking in the top 15.
Personally the ranking of Kentucky is the most interesting, given the strength of “Big Blue Nation.” But, this is just one study on fan bases across the country, and it’s safe to say that they’ll be well-represented in Indianapolis this weekend.
