Ohio State picked up a commitment on Wednesday morning as four-star, Class of 2016 forward Derek Funderburk Jr. committed to the Buckeyes. The 6-foot-9, 205-pound Funderburk announced his decision on Twitter.
Funderburk is from Lakewood, Ohio and plays for the King James Shooting Stars grassroots program. Regarded as a four-star prospect, and the No. 48 overall prospect in Rivals’ 2016 rankings, Funderburk was an in-state priority for the Ohio State staff these last few years, as they offered him a scholarship as a sophomore in high school.
The first commitment for Ohio State in the 2016 class, Funderburk is a nice foundation to build around because he has a lot of upside and he’s already proved himself as a winner in the state of Ohio. Attending Lakewood St. Edward High School, Funderburk helped he school to a state championship last season and made the state semifinals this season.
