TOP PERFORMERS

  • Duke’s Jahlil Okafor: Okafor was nearly unstoppable in the Blue Devils’ win over No. 8 San Diego State, scoring 26 points on 12-for-16 shooting to go along with six rebounds and three blocks. Duke is one of five ACC teams in the Sweet 16.
  • Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer: 24 points on 10-for-12 shooting from the field and seven rebounds in the Bulldogs’ 87-68 win over No. 7 Iowa.
  • Louisville’s Terry Rozier: Rozier shot 8-for-13 from the field and 8-for-9 from the foul line, scoring 25 points along with five rebounds and seven assists in the Cardinals’ win over No. 5 Northern Iowa. This is Louisville’s fourth straight Sweet 16 appearance.

GAME OF THE DAY: No. 7 Michigan State 60, No. 2 Virginia 54

Tom Izzo’s Spartans ended the ACC’s unblemished run through the NCAA tournament with a win over Virginia in Charlotte. Travis Trice scored 13 of his 23 points in the first half to lead the way, and Michigan State limited the Cavaliers to 29.7 percent shooting.

  • No. 5 West Virginia 69, No. 4 Maryland 59: Bob Huggins’ Mountaineers were all over the place defensively, forcing 23 Maryland turnovers which they converted into 26 points. Devin Williams led four West Virginia players in double figures with 16 points, and he also grabbed ten rebounds (three offensive).
  • No. 3 Oklahoma 72, No. 11 Dayton 66: The Flyers’ run came to an end in Columbus, as the Sooners won despite the fact that Dayton shot 11-for-21 from three. Jordan Woodard (16 points) and Buddy Hield (15) led the way offensively, with Frank Booker scoring 12 points off the bench.

DUNK OF THE DAY: Oregon’s Dillon Brooks

The Ducks were unable to beat No. 1 Wisconsin in Omaha, losing 72-65 despite a 30-point outing from Joseph Young, but Brooks’ dunk over Frank Kaminsky was an impressive one. Brooks is only a freshman, and with Young and Jalil Abdul-Bassit being the lone scholarship seniors (and a good recruiting class coming in) Oregon will be a factor in the Pac-12 next season.

TEAM OF THE DAY: No. 7 Wichita State

The Shockers have been waiting a long time to get a shot at No. 2 Kansas (1993 to be exact), and they took full advantage of the opportunity Sunday in Omaha. Wichita State won 78-65, with Tekele Cotton scoring 19 points, Fred Van Vleet 17 and Ron Baker and Evan Wessel 12 apiece.
