R.J. Hunter was ice cold for 37 minutes on Thursday afternoon.

With three minutes left in the game, Hunter had just four points on 1-for-8 shooting from the floor.

And that’s when he took over. Hunter scored 12 points in a 13-0 Georgia State to close out the game as the No. 14 Panthers knocked off No. 3 Baylor, 57-56, to advance to the Round of 32. The run was capped with this 30-footer with just 2.8 seconds left on the clock:

The shot had R.J.'s dad, head coach Ron Hunter, so excited that he fell out of his chair. Why was he sitting in the chair? Because he was so excited after winning the Sun Belt title that he tore his achilles tendon celebrating:

Credit needs to be given to Georgia State for making this run, but facts are facts, and Baylor choked this game away. The Bears committed four turnovers during Georgia State’s run, and that’s before you mention the missed dunk and missed front-end that they had in the final 30 seconds. When you’re up by 12 with three minutes left in the NCAA tournament, it’s really difficult to lose, and Baylor pulled that off.

The younger Hunter finished with 16 points to lead Georgia State, who forced 21 turnovers in total.

Of note: Kevin Ware made his return to the NCAA tournament in this game, scoring just four points on 2-for-8 shooting in the win. If you don’t remember, Ware is the former Louisville guard who suffered a brutal compound fracture of his lower leg during Louisville’s run to the 2013 National Title.
