One of the most popular upset picks in this year’s NCAA tournament field is No. 13 Eastern Washington.
It’s not just that No. 4 Georgetown has made a habit out of losing to double-digit seeds over the years, either. Eastern Washington is good. They beat Indiana at Indiana. They shoot a ton of threes. They have the nation’s leading scorer on the roster. They have the personnel to give Georgetown’s much bigger -- and much slower -- center Josh Smith trouble.
It fits.
And head coach Jim Hayford believes that.
In an interview with Jim Rome on CBS Sports Radio this afternoon, Hayford all but guaranteed a victory, telling Rome, “We’re gonna win and talk again, Jim.” (The entire interview is good, but the guarantee comes around the 7:15 mark.)
