David Carter has been fired as the head coach at Nevada, according to multiple reports.

Carter had spent six seasons with the Wolf Pack, who lost by 21 points on Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the Mountain West tournament; the news broke just over an hour after the game ended. He was 98-97 in those six seasons, never making the NCAA tournament but twice reaching the NIT.

In 2011-2012, Carter led Nevada to the WAC regular season title, going 28-7 and 13-1 in the league, but things spiraled once the program made the move to the Mountain West. Nevada finished below .500 the past three seasons, finishing 9-22 overall and just 5-13 in the MWC this season.

Carter had spent 16 years as a member of the Nevada staff, having worked as an assistant coach for a decade.
