The Citadel announced on Monday that head coach Chuck Driesell will not have his contract renewed next season.
“This was a difficult decision, but in the end our won-loss record was not where we believed it should be,” Citadel athletic director Jim Senter said in a release. “We will begin our search immediately to find a coach who is the right fit and will support our mission of educating and developing principled leaders while directing The Citadel basketball program to a more competitive level.”
Driesell, who is the son of legendary Maryland coach Lefty Driesell, had been with the program for five seasons, posting a record of just 42-113 and 22-66 in the Southern Conference.
This season, the Bulldogs were 11-19 overall and 6-12 in conference -- Driesell’s best year as head coach -- but they lose all-SoCon guard Ashton Moore to graduation.
