Providence lands commitment from Class of 2015 three-star wing

Providence made a late move and landed a prep school shooting guard this week as three-star Class of 2015 guard Ricky Council II committed to the Friars and head coach Ed Cooley. A native of North Carolina, the 6-foot-4 Council had Division I offers out of Northern Durham High School, but opted to do a prep year at Moravian Prep to get higher offers.

After a handful of high-major programs watched Council this fall and winter, Providence and Cooley were the first high-major program to offer and Council decided the Big East was best for him.

Council joins point guard Drew Edwards, wing forward Ryan Fazekas and forward Alex Owens in the Friars’ 2015 class. All four players are regarded as three-star prospects, according to Rivals.

Noted for an ability to hit perimeter shots, Council went for 53 points in a game earlier this season:
