After following up wins over Tennessee and Texas A&M with losses to Auburn and South Carolina, Georgia arrived in Tuscaloosa in need of a win. Mark Fox’s team was able to do that, beating Alabama 66-65 in overtime with a Cameron Forte baseline jumper with 6.4 seconds remaining being the difference.
Because of its impact on the outcome Forte’s shot is the play of the game for Georgia. But in the first half junior guard Kenny Gaines threw down what may stand as one of the best dunks of the season once it concludes. On a fast break Gaines leapt off of two feet and dunked on Alabama’s Shannon Hale, who had some trouble with the landing as well.
Gaines didn’t complete the three-point play, missing the free throw, but this was a very impressive finish.
