On Wednesday night, for just the ninth time in the city’s history, the Las Vegas Strip dimmed their lights in honor of former UNLV head coach Jerry Tarkanian. JFK, Ronald Reagan and Frank Sinatra are among the others who were honored with a dimming of the city’s lights.
At 10:30 p.m. local time, all of the casinos on the strip, many of the casinos off the strip and a number of the building downtown turned off their exterior lights for three minutes, the timing coinciding with the end of UNLV’s game against Boise State.
It was the first game the Rebels have played since Tark passed away last week.
This was just one of a handful of tributes that have been pouring in for Tark, a man whose legacy was complex but who helped change the lives of many families for generations to come.
On Tuesday, former players Stacey Augmon and Larry Johnson shared the tattoos they got commemorating the 1990 national title that they won with Tark.
