Kansas assistant coach Jerrance Howard plead guilty last summer to a misdemeanor possession charge while back home in his native Peoria, Illinois, according to a report from the Peoria Journal Star.
Howard was arrested in July of 2014 and charged with possession of marijuana, getting six months of court supervision and have to pay almost $1,200 in fines and court fees, the paper said.
Thursday afternoon it was announced that Howard has been suspended for two weeks, with the punishment beginning immediately.
“I take full responsibility for my actions,” Howard said in the release according to the Lawrence Journal-World. “I should have never been in that situation. Not only did I let myself down, but also my family, my coaches, my players, the fans and this program. Coach Self has done so much for me and I’m honored to a part of this team and this staff.
“I compounded the problem by not disclosing this incident to Coach Self and Kansas Athletics. I brought this penalty upon myself and will use this situation as motivation to work harder and represent this great program positively moving forward.”
Howard, who is 34, played for Self at Illinois. He’s in his second season with the Jayhawks, having spent a year at SMU and five on staff with Bruce Weber at Illinois.
