Iowa’s Fran McCaffery only wants intelligent questions about Adam Woodbury’s eye-poking (VIDEO)

Iowa blew out No. 17 Maryland on Sunday afternoon, their second straight win and another step in the right direction when it comes to locking up an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

But that’s not what everyone was talking about after the game.

For the second time in three weeks, the story was Hawkeye center Adam Woodbury and his eye pokes. On Sunday, it was Maryland star Melo Trimble that was on the receiving end of a wayward finger:

In a vacuum, this looks relatively harmless -- players get hit in the face all the time in basketball -- but the problem is that Woodbury has a history. When Iowa lost at Wisconsin on January 21st, Woodbury poked both Nigel Hayes and Frank Kaminsky in the eye, with the latter coming after he rubbed Kaminsky’s head.

You can see the video here.

Dan Dakich, the color commentator calling the game, took Woodbury to task for it, calling both pokes intentional and saying that the big man should be suspended. Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery was not pleased to hear what Dakich had to say -- he ripped Dakich on his radio show -- and it got so heated that Dakich actually needed to have extra security with him the next time he called a game in Iowa.

McCaffery was asked about it after the game, and was not pleased:

Q. What did you hear from the officials regarding Adam touching the eye or whatever it was?

FRAN McCAFFERY: They said he poked him in the eye.

Q. Is it a flagrant now if you poke a guy in the eye? I’m just curious. I thought maybe that explained that.

FRAN McCAFFERY: You know, don’t misconstrue it. That’s an excellent crew. But on that one, I don’t know.

Q. That’s three times he’s got somebody in the eye. How does this keep happening?

FRAN McCAFFERY: Next question. Ask an intelligent question.

Q. Why is that not an intelligent question?

FRAN McCAFFERY: Because I said so.

Woodbury was given a technical foul for the eye-poke against Maryland.
