With No. 18 VCU losing at St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon on a Marcus Posley layup as time expired, Dan Hurley’s Rhode Island Rams have the opportunity to move into a tie for first place in the Atlantic 10. What stands in front of the Rams is a game at Richmond, which can be seen at 2:30 p.m. Eastern on NBCSN and the NBC Sports Live Extra app if you’re away from the television.

After dropping consecutive games to VCU and UMass, URI has won four straight games with the most recent victory being a 59-55 win over George Washington last Saturday. Sophomore forward Hassan Martin, one of the nation’s best shot blockers, scored 15 points and grabbed ten rebounds in that win with freshman guard Jared Terrell scoring a team-best 17.

Add in sophomore guard E.C. Matthews, and Hurley has a young core that is expected to be a factor in the Atlantic 10 down the line. Senior Gilvydas Biruta has also been a contributor, and given how the Rams have played for most of this season the future may be now for URI.

Richmond counters with one of the conference’s best guards in senior Kendall Anthony, who led the Spiders to a win at VCU January 31. And while the Spiders have struggled on the road (1-8 record), they’re 10-2 at the Robins Center.
