For the second time in eight days, Khallid Hart’s late-game heroics lifted Marist past Niagara.
With time winding down in regulation, Hart came off a high ball screen for a 3-pointer, giving the Red Foxes a 63-61 lead with four seconds left. Niagara had one final attempt, but it was off the mark, as Marist escaped with an exciting home victory on Friday night.
Hart scored seven of his 11 points in the second half. Eight days earlier, Hart recorded the final 11 points for Marist in a 65-61 road victory. In that game, Hart connected on a 3-pointer to give Marist a 59-58 lead, one the Red Foxes would not surrender, with 28 seconds left. That play was identical to Friday night’s clutch triple.
For Marist, this is the fourth consecutive MAAC win after starting off conference play 0-9. Mike Maker, in his first year as head coach, puts that streak on the line against league-leading Iona on Sunday.
