Georgia has won three straight games, most recently beating Ole Miss 69-64 in Athens Tuesday night, and Mark Fox’s team has the look of one that could very well hear it’s name called on Selection Sunday. But the Bulldogs are also dealing with the absence of sophomore guard Juwan Parker, who’s missed two of the last three games thanks to an Achilles tendon issue that flared up in their overtime loss at LSU January 10.

Without Parker the Bulldogs essentially went seven deep against Ole Miss with Kenny Paul Geno also out of the lineup with a broken wrist. As for how long they could be without Parker, Fox didn’t have a definitive answer prior to their win over Ole Miss according to The Red & Black.

“It’s just really, really hard for him,” Fox said. “We just got to try and get him healthy. He will not play (against Ole Miss) barring a miracle. It will be a long road.”

“He’s tough, tough kid. He never admits pain and he just can’t go right now,” Fox said.

Three of Georgia’s next four games are on the road, the last of which being their visit to Lexington to take on No. 1 Kentucky February 3. Parker’s averaging 5.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game this season, and in a four-point loss to Arkansas he accounted for 11 points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes of action.

Parker gives Georgia a player who can help out on the boards, which has been an area of strength for the Bulldogs in conference play. Georgia’s conference opponents have rebounded just 27.4% of their misses, a figure that is tops in the SEC, but each of their last three foes have posted an offensive rebounding percentage above 30 percent.

Is that all attributed to the absence of Parker, who played just six minutes in the win over Florida? No, especially given the fact that he’s fifth in the team in rebounding. But the sophomore is an asset in that department.
