Alabama A&M assistant coach James Wright passed away on Wednesday night.

Wright was 46 years old.

“We’ve lost a great coach, a great man and a great person,” said head coach Willie Hayes in a release from the school. “I’ve known him since high school.”

“I’ve lost a great friend.”

Wright was in his fourth season with the Bulldogs, joining the program after working with Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Wright, who played at Jackson State with Lindsey Hunter, according to his bio, came up on the AAU scene in Alabama, where he coached NBA players Mo Williams and Justin Reed.
