Michigan received horrible news a few days ago when junior wing and All-American candidate Caris LeVert was ruled out for the season with a left foot injury.
Now we have an official diagnosis for LeVert and the injury to his left foot is actually worse now than it was during the summer when he missed 8-to-10 weeks after surgery on the same foot. Michigan head coach John Beilein discussed LeVert’s injury on Tuesday morning during the Big Ten teleconference.
“Same foot, same bone, everything,” Beilein said of LeVert’s injury. “The first fracture was not a fracture, it was a stress-related thing that showed it would fracture there. This time, it was a complete fracture. Very optimistic, doctors tell us -- 100 percent recovery.”
Recovery and rehabilitation time for the junior is expected to be around 12 weeks. LeVert’s foot will hopefully recover 100 percent, but it still means he is done for the 2014-15 season. With his NBA Draft stock still hovering near first-round status, LeVert’s college basketball future remains up in the air until he decides to return to Ann Arbor for his potential senior season or leave for the pros.
Without LeVert in the lineup, Michigan will need Zak Irvin and Derrick Walton to pick up the slack while one of Michigan’s young wings will have to emerge to replace his missed production.
