Kansas has landed their first commitment in the Class of 2015, as five-star big man Carlton Bragg has announced that he will be playing his college ball in Lawrence.

Bragg is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and is currently ranked as the No. 14 player in the class by Rivals. He picked the Jayhawks over Illinois and Kentucky.

“Bragg has some issues staying engaged for long periods of time, but there is no doubting his ability,” said NBCSports.com recruiting analyst Scott Phillips. “Bragg can score inside or outside, rebound and also runs the floor very well. Bill Self has produced plenty of great players in Bragg’s position and Carlton gives Kansas an All-American talent to kick off the class.”

Bill Self has made it known that he’s targeting big men in this class. The Jayhawks are limited when it comes to big men on this year’s roster -- Landen Lucas and Hunter Mickelson aren’t going to be winning Kansas national titles -- and there’s a possibility that both Perry Ellis and Cliff Alexander could be in the NBA by this time next season.

Bragg is not Joel Embiid or Jahlil Okafor. He’s closer to being a face-up four than he is to being a true low-post presence. But he’s a big, athletic scorer that will provide the Jayhawks with a level of scoring pop on their front line that they’ve lacked in the past couple of seasons.

The question now will become who else Kansas can land in this class. They’re heavily involved with a number of other elite recruits in the Class -- Jaylen Brown, Cheick Diallo, Brandon Ingram, Stephen Zimmermann, Tyler Dorsey, Ivan Rabb -- but with Kelly Oubre and Wayne Selden joining Alexander and Ellis as potential early entry candidates, restocking the roster for the 2015-2016 season will be a priority.

The good news?

With Frank Mason seemingly solidifying the point guard role, not to mention injured freshman Devonte’ Graham, the Jayhawks should feel comfortable about at least one position as they move forward.
