Ian Chiles will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, Tennessee head coach Donnie Tyndall announced on Monday afternoon.

Chiles is a graduate transfer from IUPUI. He tried to play through the shoulder injury, but the pain was too much for him to handle. He saw 14 minutes of action in three games.

“It’s one of those things where he has been tough and hard-nosed and tried to get through it,” Tyndall said, according to the Knoxville News-Sentinel. “I don’t know that it was ever getting totally better, but he was trying to play through it. His foot had really bothered him. That healed up to about 100 percent. But this shoulder thing continues to linger.”

The Vols are now down to just nine scholarship players. Dominic Woodson left the team earlier this season, and Jabari McGhee broke a bone in his foot.
