UNLV transfer finds a new home in the Big West

kendall smith

UNLV transfer Kendall Smith will head to the Big West conference as the sophomore guard will continue his college basketball career at Cal State Northridge. The news of Smith’s transfer was first reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein and the California native sent out a tweet saying that he was going to play for Matador head coach Reggie Theus.

The 6-foot-3 Smith averaged 14.4 minutes per contest as a freshman last season but saw his minutes get slashed significantly this season. Smith only appeared in UNLV’s first two games of the year and totaled 14 overall minutes, scoring only a single point. As a freshman, Smith averaged 3.8 points, 1.5 assists and 1.3 rebounds per game for the Runnin’ Rebels and he should find a better fit in the Big West.

Cal State Northridge has received inconsistent play from the point guard position this season as junior Landon Drew is only shooting 35 percent from the field. Smith should be able to give the Matadors a lift with his playmaking ability.

Per NCAA transfer rules, Smith will have to sit out the rest of this season and the first semester next season.
