Dayton senior point guard Ryan Bass will miss the rest of the 2014-15 season as he deals with concussion-related symptoms. A graduate transfer from Oakland, Bass appeared in eight games for the Flyers this season but will end his college basketball career, according to a release from the school.

“I feel bad for Ryan, but his health has to be everyone’s first concern,” Dayton head coach Archie Miller said in the release. “I’m hoping he will stay connected with program and go through Senior Day. He can continue to be a positive factor with us. He’s just that kind of person.”

Bass suffered a concussion in practice in early November and was sidelined until a Nov. 29 game against UIC. The 5-foot-9 guard was a reserve for the Flyers and played in the next eight games, but developed concussion-like symptoms after being knocked to the floor during Tuesday’s game against Ole Miss. Bass didn’t hit his head on the play but he was examined and came out of the game and did not re-enter.

The possibility of further injury is the reason Bass is not playing the rest of the season. Bass played 9.5 minutes per game for Dayton and averaged 3.1 points and 1.1 rebounds per contest. The Flyers have plenty of talented guards, but they’ve already kicked two forwards off of the team this season and this just means that a thin roster gets even thinner.
