Wake Forest’s game against Florida at the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Florida was already going to be a difficult matchup for Danny Manning’s team, as they’re off to a 5-5 start in his first season at the helm. Things got even tougher Saturday morning, as the school announced that three freshmen will have to sit out for disciplinary reasons.

Forward Cornelius Hudson and guard Rondale Watson will miss the game for conduct detrimental to the team, and guard Mitchell Wilbekin has been suspended up to six games for an undisclosed violation of NCAA rules. According to the school release it is appealing the NCAA’s decision to suspended the younger brother of former Florida point guard Scottie Wilbekin.

“We believe in Mitchell Wilbekin,” Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman said in the release. “We do not agree with the length of the penalty or the violation, and we will be appealing the suspension with the NCAA.”

Hudson and Wilbekin have each started seven of Wake Forest’s ten games, with Wilbekin averaging 7.6 points and 1.8 assists per game and Hudson going for 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest. Watson has played in six games for the Demon Deacons, averaging 1.7 points in seven minutes of action per game.
