Two mistakes cost Evansville a win in final 2.6 seconds (VIDEO)

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, baseline and sideline out of bounds plays in basketball are like special teams in football, and Evansville did a pretty good job on Saturday of showing you how not to execute late in a game.

Here’s the situation: the Purple Aces are tied with Murray State at home with 2.6 seconds left. They have the ball under their own basket. Their play call involves throwing a bomb, and Adam Wing does his best Colin Kaepernick impression, throwing the ball into the first row on the other end of the court.

That means Murray State has the ball under their own basket with a chance to win, and they get a wide-open layup as Evansville doesn’t know whether they are switching screens or not.

Kudos to Murray State for taking advantage of the mistakes, but that loss is going to sting for Evansville.
